The next stop on my Australia tour was a place called Airlie Beach! Airlie Beach had an even smaller population than Cairns, and was almost too small for my liking, but still a fun and chill place to wander around.
The main reason people go to Airlie Beach is to sail the Whitsunday Islands, and that was my first priority upon arrival! This was going to be my first time sailing, and I guess you could say I set the bar fairly high sailing the Whitsundays for the first time. The white sand beaches and unique colored turquoise water is mesmerizing and the islands of the Whitsundays are so remote feeling it’s unbelievable!
Whitehaven Beach in the Whitsundays is continually rated as one of the most beautiful beaches in the world – and all of the Whitsundays is just spectacular. I did quite as bit of hiking there and ended up staying on Palm Beach island with a few travel buddies.
The one thing that happens frequently in Airlie Beach, and I regretfully found out too late to do, is go on a party boat there. There are a plethora of travel stores in Airlie beach that cater to these party boats, so have no fear that you wont find one. Just one Google search brought up Mad Travel Shop and Pride of Airlie which offers party boats as well. Another great site for finding general packages and deals is Airliebeach.com. I just planned my trip out too early and wish I had gone my more usual route of flying by the seat of my pants! Peterpan’s Adventure Travel is one travel business that I found to be utterly AMAZING in all of Australia.
Have no fear if you miss the party boats from Airlie Beach to Whitsunday Islands though, as there are many sailing groups that offer drinking games for the 20-30’s crowd once you dock the boat.
The most important thing you must remember to do before you depart Whitsunday Islands to Airlie Beach is BRUSH YOUR TEETH! The sand there has some sort of polishing quality or something. At least, that’s what someone said, and it’s not like I’m gullible or anything. Ok, maybe I am, but everyone was doing it!
Have you been sailing before? How about on the Whitsundays? What was your experience like?!
