Reasons To Fall in Love with Ubud, Bali
From the moment I stepped onto the tarmac at the Bali airport, there was inescapable sense of peace and serenity. I felt… home. It’s true what they say. Bali brings every single part of shadow work and/or healing you have to do to the surface. I felt this almost immediately. (insert you own Eat, Pray, Love joke here)
Okay, at 38, I may have been doing my fair share of that, although my version would be called Dance, Laugh, and Be Joyful! I will discuss that more in depth later, but to say that I fell in love with Bali would be an understatement.
Bali was exquisite. The food was delectable, but even more so affordable. The hotels and hostels were luxury quality on a budget. I knew that Bali would be inexpensive, but I didn’t realize just how much. Yes, being the budget babe that I am, I discovered ways for you to thrive on a budget in Ubud, Bali. But on a soulful level, I discovered there are SO many reasons to fall in love with Ubud, Bali that have nothing to do with affordability I had to write a more broad review.
Luxury accommodations at affordable prices
I was so thrilled to be able to stay at the Puji Hostel and Bungalow while in Ubud, Bali. It had a free breakfast, an infinity pool that resembled a 5 star hotel, and the option to either stay in a female only bungalow or have your own! Would you just look at this place? The best part? It was $7 American dollars!
You could easily stay here as well by using Booking.com to arrange your stay in Ubud, Bali.
Get up close and personal with MONKEYS!
If you are new to my blog, you must know I have a fascination and obsession with monkeys that dates back to high school. I have always wanted to own one and my best friend and I were dead set on raising some together.
Over time, I have only grown more fondly of them. So, when I found out about the Ubud Monkey Forest, I knew it was going to be my first stop. To say I was ecstatic would be the understatement of the year.
This place had monkeys that you could walk right up to EVERYWHERE. Admittedly, I got a little too excited and too close to one of the male monkeys trying to take a selfie (cut me some slack- I was alone!), which proceeded to lunge at me. I got scared and fell over. It was kind of a disaster, and I’d still be enamored to live and die at this forest. It’s like being IN a nature show or as if you walked into a zoo enclosure. I have to thank the 2 chicks from Australia for snapping a few pics of me with the monkeys. Wherever you may be, THANK YOU!
Swing into your next life
You may have seen or heard of the giant swing in Bali. There are actually at least a couple of them in the Ubud, Bali area, that I know of. I have to say that when I first witnessed people doing this and screaming I thought they were being pansies. It doesn’t look that scary until you actually sit down in the swing and realize that you are held up by 2 small cables around your waist and it’s just a large rope swing into oblivion!
Three men are actually huffing and puffing and pushing you in this thing which is amusing to say the least. They must be the most fit men in all of Ubud!
As you can see, there are a multitude of reasons to fall in love with Ubud, Bali. Whether it be to partake in the luxurious yet affordable accommodations, play with monkeys, eat your heart out, or swing into your next life, you’ll have plenty of option to choose from. I KNOW, that if you are in any way a conscious Earth loving granola hippie you’ll be one smitten kitten. But, truthfully you don’t even need to be a hippie. Just be prepared for your soul to be told exactly what it needs to hear. Oh, and watch out for lunging monkeys.
Have you been to Ubud, Bali? Can you think of any other reasons someone might fall in love with Ubud, Bali?
Such a nice place and picture collection is truly amazing.
I’ve always wanted to visit Bali. Thank you for sharing your experience.
Hey Bobbi, how many nice memories you’ve just awaken in me. I remember when I first visited Bali and the Ubud area. I especially enjoyed the Tegalalang rice terrace with its amazing irrigation system called Subak.
You also made me laugh with the monkeys, I just love them and wherever I go to Bali or India I always get my share of cold sweat as I always get to close to them and they quickly let me know I’m invading their private space (I even got bitten once!) especially when they have infants around.
Thanks for sharing those great moments with us.
Cheers,
Betty

Hi there,
We were just there in Nov 2019. I thought I got a good deal on a bungalow at $19 a night but you beat me at $7….. So here are a couple of things I would add:
1. Nests – everyone needs that photo in a nest
2. The smell of Lavender incense all over
3. The Water Palace (we did tons of palaces, temples, etc) but this was my favorite
4. The people – the most honest I’ve ever met anywhere
Love your photos… Nikki
A trip to Ubud is essential to receive a true taste of Bali. There is some amazing rafting, which provides a unique perspective floating down stream (and if you are lucky, you can also see monkeys playing in the trees along the banks).
There are look amazing & wonderful pics. I would be definitely planning a trip for Bali.
